Established in 1924.
– In 1923 coal and railroad magnate John Sutphin Jones commissioned the construction of The Granville Inn in the Jacobethan Revival style on the site of the Granville Female College, which had closed its doors in 1898. The stone and half-timber structure was designed by Frank L. Packard, a prominent Columbus architect. All the sandstone was quarried at Jones’ nearby estate, Bryn Du. The Inn’s opening on June 26, 1924 was attended by as many as 5000 people. In 2013 the Inn was purchased by Denison University, insuring the future of this landmark property. Now managed by Columbus Hospitality, the Inn’s team strives to maintain the sense of history and tradition that have been hallmarks of the Granville Inn for over eighty-five years.
