For more than three decades, Filomena has offered an unparalleled Italian fine-dining experience in the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, D.C. The restaurant, founded by JoAnnaFilomena in 1983, is heralded for its traditional Italian cuisine, fine wine, and exceptional service.

Filomena features a menu inspired by Mother Filomena’s simple, yet creative cuisine, as well as her wonderful old-world traditional recipes. To accent your meal, our menu includes an extensive wine list featuring a variety of Italy’s finest wines. In fact, we were included among Open Table’s 100 Best Restaurants for Wine Lovers in the U.S.!

Our unique approach to traditional Italian cooking offers handmade homestyle dishes in an environment that reflects our culinary heritage and our family traditions. For JoAnnaFilomena and her family, decorating was a priority during the holidays, and the tradition lives on at our restaurant. Some guests make it a point to visit the restaurant each and every holiday to see the decorations!

You Never Know Who You Will See Dining at Filomena!

Your best chance of catching a celebrity sighting in DC—having dinner at Filomena! In the 30+ years that we have been around, countless stars—and multiple U.S. presidents—have enjoyed our delicious Italian classics. At Filomena, the celebrity clientele has included Jimmy Stewart, Cindy Crawford, Goldie Hawn, Denzel Washington, Robert De Niro, Alex Ovechkin, Glenn Close and B.B. King, among many others.

Amaretto and Sambucca are a Celebrated Post-Meal Tradition!

One of the most important aspects that JoAnna carried from her family to the restaurant was the tradition of sharing a glass of Sambucca or Amaretto with dinner guests at the end of a meal. JoAnna took this one step further and decided that it would make guests feel more like friends and special “company” if they could pour their own Sambucca at the end of the meal just as they would if they were guests in her home. Originally just Sambucca, JoAnna also added Amaretto for those who didn’t care for Sambucca so that they could have a drink with everyone else. Although the Amaretto was more often chosen in the early days of Filomena, that trend has completely reversed itself and now most guests prefer the Sambucca.

Filomena can satisfy the most discerning palates and the heartiest of appetites. Reservations are highly recommended. Valet parking is available, and private parties and off-site catering are welcome and can be accommodated.
